What types of classes are offered?

EFGH offers French classes to students from pre-K to 12th grade. Children must be 4 years old by September 1st to enroll.

  • The FLAM program (Français Langue Maternelle or French for native speakers) is for children who come from a francophone background. Classes take place on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to noon.

 

  • The FLE program (Français Langue Etrangère or French as a Foreign Language) welcomes children who are beginners and who come from a non-francophone background. Classes take place on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

When and where are the classes?

All FLAM and FLE classes are exclusively on Saturday morning at Memorial Elementary School, 6401 Arnot St, Houston TX 77007.

How are the classes organized?

After enrollment, the students are individually assessed in order to be assigned to either the FLAM or FLE program, and to the most appropriate group level depending on their comprehension, writing, speaking, reading and grammatical skills.

Classes are in French only, as well as all the materials we use in the classroom.

The school calendar runs from September through May for a total of 28 classes. Each class has a unique teacher helped by a teaching assistant for pre-K and elementary levels.

How to enroll my child?

The registration process for the 2017-2018 school year will be online only.

The first day of school will be on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

Enrollment starts on April, 1st, whether you are a new or returning family. To secure a spot for your child, the $100 registration fee ($200 after June, 1st) must be paid immediately. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The full online application process must be completed by July, 31st. The first payment is due 30 days from receiving the invoice, and on September, 3rd at the latest, whichever date comes first, in order for your child to be allowed to attend the class.

Can I enroll for one semester? Is it an open enrollment?

We do not accept enrollments by the semester. The curriculum is developed so that learning objectives are met at the end of the 28-weeks cycle.

After the first day of school, new families willing to enroll a child must email EFGH Director at directeur@efghouston.org. Requests will be considered on a case by case basis and after the child is being tested.

Can my child give it a try?

We do not offer trial classes. EFGH is a year-long commitment.

As a parent, what is my commitment upon registering my child?

Learning a language requires a long term commitment from both the student and his/her parents. Before enrolling your child, we ask you to guarantee that you have every intention to make him/her attend classes on a regular basis and for the whole school year.

The support and motivation of the children’s families are crucial to the success of the programs. We recommend when possible to speak French at home, and to enjoy French whenever possible (games, books, magazines, movies), to read bedtimes stories in French, to cook French recipes…

What are the rates? – How do I pay tuition and fees?

As a non-profit organization, we do our best to keep tuition and fees as low as possible without sacrificing quality or jeopardizing the sustainability of EFGH.

Registration fees due for each individual student are:

  • $100 for early bird registration before June 1st
  • $200 for registration after June 1st

Registration fees are due on time of enrollment and are non-refundable.

Families new to Houston and arrived after June 1st may obtain a $100 discount on registration fees upon presentation of a written proof from your company.

Tuitions for the school year:

  • $1,500/year for FLAM program
  • $950/year for FLE program

Methods of payment are:

  • by check to the order of  EFGH: in a single payment, directly sent to EFGH, 14119 Swallowfield Dr, Houston TX77077-1423
  • E-check: in a single payment, with a $1 fee
  • By credit card: in one, two or four payments to be paid on the 3rd day of each month between September 3rd and December 3rd plus 2.5% charge per payment.

For the children to be accepted in class, the first payment must be made within 30 days upon receipt of the invoice or on the 3rd day of September at the latest.

Do I get a discount if I register more than one child?

If you enroll two or more children, a 5% discount will be applied to the total tuition amount. Registration fees remain due in full.

May I get financial assistance?

Scholarships are awarded based on the financial need of families. They do not exceed 50% of the tuitions fees. Registration fees are still due.

Financial aid application’s forms should be sent to EFGH before August 1st. Replies are sent on or before August 31st.

What are the penalties for late payment or NSF payment?

We ask you to make your payments on schedule. A late fee of $25 will be applied if your payment is more than 7 (seven) days late and/or in case of NSF payment. In case of financial difficulty, please contact directeur@efghouston.org.

What happens if I am late picking up my child?

You are required to respect the schedules of the beginning and the end of the class.

If you are late for the pickup of your child, EFGH is entitled to demand a payment of a fine of $5 (five dollars) for every 5 (five) minutes late.

If you want another person to pick up your child from time to time or on a regular basis, you are required to email an authorization to directeur@efghouston.org.

What will happen if I want to cancel the registration or to withdraw my child from the classes?

If you cancel a registration prior to the first day of class, only tuitions will be reimbursed. Registration fees are non-refundable.

In case of withdrawal after the first day of class, refunds of paid tuition will be pro-rated, only for medical reasons or in case of a transfer. A medical waiver or a written proof from your company must be provided.

Discipline & Class Expulsion

Children must follow life’s rules of conduct as well as the teacher’s regulation, namely: respect, courtesy, follow instructions, cooperation and discipline.

EFGH reserves its right to temporarily or permanently exclude any student whose behavior in class conflicts with other students learning and/or well-being, and the smooth operation of the courses. In case of expulsion, tuition fees are not refunded.

Cancellation of classes

We reserve the right to cancel classes temporarily or definitively.

Temporary cancellation:

  • if a teacher is transiently unable to teach his/her class, and no substitute is available,
  • If the school is closed due to a force majeure. In this case, EFGH will arrange a a replacement date.

Definitive cancellation:

  • if no teacher is available for a specific level
  • in the event of insufficient enrollment.

Refund Policy

If your child’s class must be canceled because of insufficient enrollment, or if the requested class is full, or if we have no teacher available, we will refund the full registration fee and tuition.

If a class is canceled during the year, refunds will be pro-rated, based on the effective date of cancellation.
