Launched in 2001, the French as a Native Language (FLAM) program allows French children living abroad to practice their native language and stay connected to French culture outside regular school hours. EFGH is a member of the FLAM USA and FLAM MONDE federations.
FLAM is designed for children raised in a French-speaking family. Our classes are conducted entirely in French by trained and qualified teachers. We focus primarily on four key areas of language learning:
Students expand their vocabulary and enhance their speaking skills through conversations, group projects, and memorizing classic French songs, poems, and texts. We also help them reinforce what they’ve learned by encouraging writing practice from an early age.
Programs customized for every level
The age ranges below are provided as guidelines only. We ensure that each student receives individualized attention tailored to their specific needs.
Prerequisite: Must be able to understand basic French.
Objectives: Students expand their vocabulary and develop their speaking skills through in-class practice. Language is taught through cartoons, art, and activities that also help build motor skills. Children memorize classic French songs, poems, and nursery rhymes, singing or reciting them. They are also introduced to writing.

Objectives: Students continue to expand their vocabulary and internalize the language through classroom conversations, oral activities organized and assessed by the teacher, and memorizing classic French songs, poems, and nursery rhymes. We prepare children for reading and writing by teaching them how to break words into syllables and sound them out. A more structured reading and writing curriculum begins in the second year.
